Lee Building Company recently wrapped up a renovation/expansion of an existing historic building on East Jefferson Street in downtown Charlottesville. The building, originally constructed in 1907, was one of the earliest examples of brick veneer facade encasing a structurally wood-framed building in Charlottesville. Our team partnered with Design Develop LLC, a frequent architecture partner, to restore life back into the building and bring it up to modern standards to transform it into a bed & breakfast.
The tight site in downtown Charlottesville provided many logistical challenges, especially during the demo phase. The existing brick veneer facade was completely removed in order to install a new brick veneer. The basements existing slab was removed to make way for a new slab, along with new additional slabs for the expansion. The MEP system was upgraded throughout the building along with structural components, while protecting existing historical components, in order to provide a long-lasting building for decades to come.
